چکیده

The combinatorial tool of generating functions for restricted partitions is used to generalize a quantum physics theorem relating distinct multiplets of different angular momenta in the composite Fermion model of the fractional quantum Hall effect. Specifically, if g (N,M) denotes the number of distinct multiplets of angular momentum and total angular momentum M, we prove that g (N,M) ∑ k|N gL(k) ( N k ,M ) , where the sum is taken over all positive divisors ofN andL(k)=k −kN/2+3k/2−N+N/(2k)−1/2. The original Quinn–Wójs theorem results when k = 1 and it appears that this generalization will be useful in further investigations of nuclear shells modeling elementary particle interactions when the particles are clustered together. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. Composite Fermions and Integer Partitions

We utilize the KOH theorem to prove the unimodality of integer partitions with at most a parts, all parts less than or equal to b, that are required to contain either repeated or consecutive parts. We connect this result to an open question in quantum physics relating the number of distinct total angular momentum multiplets of a system of N fermions, each with angular momentum L, to those of a ...

Composite Fermions in Quantum Hall Sys- Tems

— The occurrence of incompressible quantum fluid states of a two dimensional system is a result of electron–electron interactions in a highly degenerate fractionally filled Landau level. Novel quasiparticles (QP’s) called composite Fermions (CF’s) have allowed a simple single particle description of the most prominent incompressible states. Residual interactions among these QP’s are investigate...

Enigmatic 4/11 state: a prototype for unconventional fractional quantum Hall effect.

The origin of the fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) at 4/11 and 5/13 has remained controversial. We make a compelling case that the FQHE is possible here for fully spin polarized composite fermions, but with an unconventional underlying physics. Thanks to a rather unusual interaction between composite fermions, the FQHE here results from the suppression of pairs with a relative angular mome...

Composite Fermions and quantum Hall systems: Role of the Coulomb pseudopotential

The mean field composite Fermion (CF) picture successfully predicts angular momenta of multiplets forming the lowest energy band in fractional quantum Hall (FQH) systems. This success cannot be attributed to a cancellation between Coulomb and Chern–Simons interactions beyond the mean field, because these interactions have totally different energy scales. Rather, it results from the behavior of ...

Condensation of Nonabelian Moore–Read Quasiholes in Correlated Composite Fermion Liquids

Twoand three-body correlation functions (number of pairs or triplets vs. relative angular momentum) of electrons or Laughlin quasielectrons (i.e., composite fermions in their first excited Landau level) are studied numerically in several fractional quantum Hall liquids. It is shown directly that the νe = 4/11 liquid (corresponding to a ν = 1/3 filling of composite fermions in their first excite...
